Introduction

I remember from my youth a story, an analogy, of a blacksmith and the metal with which he works.  How the blacksmith could work a piece of metal with fire and hammer turning it into a useful tool or implement.  But sometimes no matter how he pounded or heated, that piece of metal just would not take shape; all that could be done was toss it on the scrap heap.

The analogy of course -- God is the blacksmith, we are the metal.

My prayer -- Please don't give up on me, pound harder if you must, make the fire hotter if you must, but please don't throw me on the scrap heap.

Scotch Blessing?  It means - a tongue lashing, a strong reprimand.  But I've been intrigued by the “blessing”.

Pondering that, I found -- Hebrews 12:6 and Proverbs 3:12.  I thought about the brother of Jared’s three hour chastening from the Lord.

Conclusion -- we need to be thankful when the Lord takes the time to reprimand us and remember it is because of his great love for us.
